The Gingerbread Man

WHOOPS!!!
Sorry everyone, I have just realised, in doing this week's blog, that I hadn't actually published last week's one! Here it is finally...

  Hello again!

Our fairy tale for this week has been "The Gingerbread Man" and the class have really enjoyed the simple story and catchy chant. They are all getting really good at joining in with the lines they know and "run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread man!" has been very popular, especially as it is usually followed  by very noisy game of tag!
We started the week with a great sensory activity to introduce the class to some of the special ingredients used to make gingerbread. Nursery were excited to touch, smell and even taste the cinnamon sticks, nutmeg and cloves which we then used to rub onto our sandpaper gingerbread men, not only colouring the men but also releasing their wonderful scents. They looked and smelled delicious!

( sorry, I will upload these pictures as soon as I find where I saved them!

We looked at some of the animals that the gingerbread man escaped from like the cow and the horse and made some fun symmetrical cow prints by squirting watery paint. The class discovered lots of different shapes hidden in the pictures, some saw cars while others saw rockets or butterflies. Somebody saw a sandwich! We used them to make our gorgeous cows....

We traced our shoes to make our horses' heads and did a great job using our scissor skills to cut their manes and the grass in the fields.

Those naughty cows escaped from the field so we had go at herding them back into their pens....

It was a bit more difficult than we thought!

On Friday we put all those spices to good use and made some yummy cinnamon french toast. Mixing up the eggs and dipping the bread into it was messy fun but the best part was eating it!

Minnie and Uss helped Kru Por make some lovely fruit salad

And finally we decorated our gingerbread people and houses using pretend icing.

As you can see we had a great week with The Gingerbread Man, we hope you did too!

See you next Tuesday!
