Review and preview

This has been a brilliant first week!  All the children have settled in superbly! I am very much looking forward to the rest of the year!

Y1 Weekly Update: 22nd - 26th August 2016

This Week

Next Week

English
This week, we have been completing lots of ‘getting to know you activities’.  Children have been finding out what different resources we have in the class and have enjoyed playing the games with their friends.
  • We will begin our first English unit on Fairytales, reading Jack and the Beanstalk and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
  • We will be sequencing these stories and acting them out.
Maths
  • We will be counting to 20, ordering and comparing numbers.
  • We will be using manipulatives to make maths fun!
Topic
We have started our topic ‘All About Me’.  Children have considered their favourite colours, hobbies and books.  After looking in a mirror, which they loved, they have drawn excellent self portraits.
  • We will be creating self and peer questionnaires to find out more about ourselves and others.
  • We will continue to play to find out more about ourselves.
  • We are going to be talking to our friends about their favourite things.
PSHE
We discussed the class rules and spent some time acting these out.
  • We will be thinking about how the brain we think.
Notices and Events
ECAs begin on Monday.
Please be aware that, as per the school policy, if a child cannot swim, they will need a doctor’s note. No swim = no play: If a child cannot swim, they will not be able to play.
Homework will be given out on Monday and is due in on Friday.

Circle Time

During Circle Time, we talked about things that we are excited about for the coming year and any worries we have.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry this term is 'All About Me'.  The children have, this week, been playing games and talking about their favourite things.
