Classroom activities this week - 26/10/15

We made a busy start to term 1.2 and children were eager to share their child initiated ideas with each other. Our current topic is Ted's Birthday, so we have been busy making props to support this theme.
Here are some snaps of activities from yesterday and today. Please ask you children to explain the pictures to you as this will support their language development.

This week's home learning - 27/10/15

I hope you all had a wonderful half term break! The children are rested and ready to take their learning to the next level!
Our new topic is Ourselves - Birthdays (Ted's Birthday).
For this week's home learning, I would like children to make a party hat for Ted's Birthday Party, which will be on Friday 6th November. Please encourage children to make the hat themselves (I can always tell when children have made things by themselves!).
I am looking forward to seeing some lovely hats next Friday!

If you have time, you could also make a birthday card for Ted. This is a great way to practice reading and spelling the words 'To Ted' and 'From...'. Again, please encourage children to make the card by themselves.

This week's home learning

So, we have made it to the end of the first half term! Phew! Time for a well earned rest!

For home learning over the holiday, children can practice writing lists. We have been writing various lists in class, including lists of colours, favourite food, and friend's names.
Here are some lists you could write at home:

  • shopping lists
  • favourite tv shows
  • numbers
  • names of family members
  • pet's names
Remember that your child's writing might be messy, contain back-to-front letters, contain shapes, or numbers. let them write naturally and always congratulate them on their efforts.

Please take pictures of the lists and email them to me so I can put them on this blog page.

Have a great holiday and see you all on the 26th October!
