Love Week

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a good long weekend.
We celebrated our "Love week" last week with lots of beautiful crafts and activities based on the themes of sharing, friendship and kindness. The class were all very eager to talk about who they loved (there is a whole lotta love happening in this class!) but it was a bit harder to express some of the ways we show someone we love them. Hugging and kissing were the most popular answers but there were some really cute and surprising comments when we asked Nursery what they do to show mum, dad, friends that they love them? some comments included..."help mummy wash the car" "let mummy buy me icecream" "take them shopping". "share my toys" and "watch the fish together"!
We really enjoyed hunting for hearts in the playground  and Nursery were brilliant at choosing which coloured line to stick them onto to create a wonderful rainbow of love. Beautiful!

We also did some fun heart stamping crafts and made paper hugs. I hope everyone received valentines day cards made with loving hands and hearts.

Please don't forget that this Friday is International Day and our class theme is Japan. So, get your Kimonos on, bring your chopsticks (and a snack!) and join us!

  - Sorry It's a bit of a short post as I have been off with the lurgy and I think Mr Ben had his hands too full to be taking many pictures!

Around the world

Hello everyone,
We have had a really busy week and it's great to have all the class back together again. Nursery are continuing to explore new countries and cultures and the class are really enjoying learning a little about how other people live. Food and music around the world have been especially fun to discover and we have had some wonderful dancing sessions this week!  On Monday we looked at some amazing Native American tribal dances. We painted some teepees and made beautiful feather headdresses and had our own Powwow- I wish I had some video to show you some of the fabulous rain dances that Nursery made up, it was so much fun!

In Italy we called our friends round for dinner and made some scrummy looking pizza and pasta dishes. Nursery really loved cooking for their classmates and dancing the "tarantella"!

We had a quick trip to Japan, ate some sushi and made some beautiful sakura prints...

And finally we travelled to India where we scooped, poured and mixed up some beans and pulses to cook up some delicious curries and the beautiful Indian Saris inspired us to dress up and boogie along to some Bollywood classics- again, sorry no video :(  I will try to have my camera at the ready next time!

For International day on Friday 21st February we will be celebrating all things Japanese, so if you have any Japanese themed books, toys, pictures, etc.we would love to see them. Unfortunately there will be no show this year but we will still be having a Japanese themed party so please dress your child up! You are very welcome to bring a snack for the children to share- anything Japanese would be great but any International style finger foods are also very welcome, particularly if you have a national dish you'd like to share with us :)

Chinese New Year

 Gong Xi Fa Cai!!!

It has been a little quieter than usual this week as a few of the class have been poorly and others have been lucky enough to join in Chinese new year festivities- We can't wait to welcome all our friends back again
This week we have been discovering more about different countries and cultures around the world. Nursery were so keen on the igloo last week we decided to take a closer look at the Innuit (Eskimo) tribes of North America. We donned our fur boots and hats and braved the Alaskan chill to go fishing in a snow hole. I think you'll agree that we make fantastic Eskimos!

Next we moved to Russia, Nursery were intrigued by the traditional Russian Matryoshka dolls and squealed in delight as each one opened up to reveal a smaller one- This was also a great opportunity to practise our counting skills!
The first doll opens up....

Doll number 10 is still just as hilarious!

We even had a go at some Russian dancing :)

On Thursday and Friday we travelled to China to celebrate the Chinese New year. We made dragons and lucky red drums to welcome the new year in with lots of noise.

We counted the right number of coins into our "Ang Pao" and used chopsticks to eat some noodles in a chinese restaurant -Yummy!

The class were very brave through the Chinese New Year concert in the morning - They loved the performances and     even the firecrackers didn't faze them. They really enjoyed     the Chinese dragon dance and were keen to put on a little     show of their own!

Love that the boys decided to do the drumbeat for the Dragon!

I hope you all had a great week too!
