Japanese week

Hello and Welcome back!
I hope everybody had a lovely half term break, I heard lots of stories about what Nursery have been doing in the holidays and it sounds like you were all pretty busy!
The week before last was Japanese week and we had a great time discovering Japan's culture. Hopefully they learnt a bit about the music, language and beauty of Japan - I know most of them are very keen to go for a visit now! Some of the class already had some experience of Japanese food so they enjoyed making play dough sushi and pretend ramen noodles- mmmm Oishi!!
Painting with chopsticks was a new experience and Nursery experimented with various different ways of picking up the cotton wool and moving it around the paper-  A great work out for little hands!

We also coloured some Japanese paper fans and tried our hands at some basic origami paper folding...

Nursery had a lot of fun squirting and mixing colours on the water when we tried the ancient Japanese art of Suminagashi (or marbling). They loved watching they colours swirl around as they swished the water with the sticks - beautiful!

We also learnt about the legend of the Koi carp and made some gorgeous Koi carp wind catchers for Japanese childrens day and some rather fat Japanese Sumo wrestlers complete with paper pants!

but I think my favourite part of the week was seeing the class try out their skills in the baby sumo wrestling ring- it was hilarious!

A huge thank you to everyone for really helping to make international day really special. The costumes were fabulous and the food delicious- myself and Kru Por were really impressed with the effort everyone went to in bringing a taste of Japan to Ascot. We couldn't do it without you!
