Nursery Rhymes

Hello everybody,

This week we have been exploring colours, shapes and numbers through some traditional nursery rhymes. We started with building a wall for poor Humpty Dumpty... and then letting him fall off it! The kids enjoyed watching him splat and soon discovered why "all the kings horses and all the kings men" had a hard time putting him back together again! When we tried again with a hard boiled "Humpty" the children were able to compare the damage...

Nursery liked breaking up eggshells and put their fine motor skills into practice to recreate Humpty Dumpty on his wall. They also traced and coloured their own egg people and had fun making up names and stories to go with them!

Nursery loved acting out Incy wincy spider with their own spider puppet, we had fun pretending to gobble up flies and mosquitos and made some great playdough spiders- some of them even had eight legs! We also practiced number recognition (and not swatting our friends!)  in a fast and fun game of squish the spider.

We attempted bubble printing to make our Baa Baa Black sheep craft but, although everyone was great at blowing through the straws in our practice run, the temptation to suck was too strong for some so we switched to sponge painting.

Nursery enjoyed joining in with  "Hickory Dickory Dock" in little mouse voices.  The class really loved trying to guess which house the mouse was hiding under in our game "Little mouse, what colour is your house?" and even the quietest in the group have been keen to ask him where he is hiding.

They were great at counting out the claps and doing the actions. We talked about what clocks are used for and looked at the numbers on the clock face before making paper plate clocks.

We made some beautiful handprint fish to go with our final Nursery rhyme of the week  "1,2,3,4,5 Once I caught a fish alive".

And, of course, we played a lot! Hope you like all of our pictures. Join us again next week to see all our spring crafts and activities...
