Review and preview

Y1 Weekly Update: Monday 5th September - Friday 9th September 2016

This Week

Next Week

English
We have explored The Three Little Pigs and showed this story ourselves through role play.  Some children even chose to perform this on the stage outside during lunch times.

  • We will be reading and exploring the story Cinderella.
Maths
We worked out what the number bonds to five are.  We have started to look at adding as counting on.
  • We will continue to learn different ways to add.
Topic
We considered what we like about ourselves and discussed this.
  • We will be acting like each other and inspecting what others think of us.
PSHE
We have considered different emotions, especially in the playground.
  • We will be talking about the importance of sharing and the consequences if we do not.
Optional homework
As part of our inquiry, we have been finding out about other people’s interests and passions.  Mr Booth came and talked to the us this week about his passion, bird watching.  Since then, some children have been looking out of the windows more and spotting some interesting birds!  This week’s optional homework therefore is to find out about birds you see out of the window.  This could be drawing pictures of what they look like or researching facts about them.
Notices and Events
  • Please be aware that, as per the school policy, if a child cannot swim, they will need a doctor’s note. No swim = no play: If a child cannot swim, they will not be able to play.
  • Homework will be given out on Monday and is due in on Friday.
  • As part of Y1C’s unit of inquiry, I am looking for people to come in and talk about their abilities and passions for five minutes. If you have a particularly interesting ability or passion, and do not mind joining our class and talking about it for a short while, please let me know.
  • Some brilliant collages about ‘Things I Am Good At’ were made last week.  Thank you for helping your children to create these! As a discussion point, please talk to your children about things you think you are good at and explain why.
  • Please check the EY and PY blog http://ascotprimary.blogspot.com/ for Mr Renie’s weekly newsletter.
  • It has been expressed by some parents that they would like to be able to enter the primary building in order to see their child’s classrooms.  Whilst the policy of only primary children and teachers entering the primary building is going to remain for safety reasons, parents of children in Y1C are invited into our classroom on Mondays from 3.10pm - 4.00pm to discuss any issues concerning your child or to reflect on their work with them.
  • It has been great to see lots of parents checking on how many ‘Dojo points’ their child has been given.  We are not using the Dojo website as a way of communication between teachers and parents.  If you do have any questions or queries, please email me: ocallaghan@ascot.ac.th or catch me in the playground in the mornings or afternoons.
