The very Hungry Caterpillar

Hello Everybody!

We have had at fantastic week here in Nursery.

For book week we explored the themes of colour and change through Eric Carle's wonderful book  "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".  Fabien's cartoon version and Panboon's finger puppet book really helped bring the story to life and the class loved it!

They really enjoyed the simplicity of the story and we had fun pretending to be the caterpillar popping out of his egg and munching his way through all the delicious fruit and other food before emerging as a beautiful butterfly.

On Monday we used balloons to create our own hungry caterpillars and then went out to hunt for some food for them to eat....lots and lots of leaves!!!

We had fun sorting our leaves into nice fresh green ones, perfect for the little caterpillars, and not so yummy old brown ones. Using a hole punch to 'munch' through the green leaves was a great little workout for our hands!

Time to give our creativity free reign with some tissue paper stamping, a la Eric Carle...Aren't they beautiful?!

Our pipe cleaner caterpillars were really hungry and naming the different fruit as they threaded their way through helped reinforce all that food vocabulary...and we snuck a bit of counting in there too!

Finally we used all our new knowledge to make a butterfly life cycle plate, complete with hand spun cocoons. I cant wait to get into some more creepy crawly crafts later in the year!
