My senses and Loy Kratong

Hello!

It's been a really busy week in Nursery. We have had lots of fun learning about our amazing five senses...
We discovered how hard it was to recognise our friends without our sense of sight by playing the blindfold game and then we made good use of our eyes on a colour treasure hunt out in the playground.

In art we made colourful binoculars and looked at the world in a new way!

Nursery had great fun listening to animal and vehicle sounds and trying to match them to their pictures when we explored our sense of hearing. We made some  "maracas" using bottles and dried beans and practised shaking them gently and then (really) HARD! We talked about loud and soft sounds and made some pretend guitars with pots and rubber bands to pluck.

Next we explored our sense of smell. We talked about how our noses can be used for breathing and smelling and had a go at identifying some different smells (coffee, cheese, garlic, mint, vanilla and orange) and deciding if we liked them or not. It was great to see everyone's faces as they got a whiff of something they knew and tried to figure out what it could be. Suprisingly stinky parmesan cheese was popular ..."Pizza!' and vanilla had all the class hungry for ice cream...YUM!
On Thursday we played magic bag and everyone had a turn feeling around in the bag and pulling out something new. The class were really good at sorting the objects into "hard" and "soft" piles.
Then came the messy bit!
We used our hands to explore some lovely soft shaving foam and had a great time slathering it all over the tables and using our fingers to spread, scoop, scratch and poke pictures and patterns the squishy surface!
Later we dropped some food colouring on to the foam and had fun swirling the colours together before making prints.

And finally, Loy Kratong was fabulous!!! Everyone looked SO gorgeous all dressed up in their costumes and I was really impressed at the way that they managed to sit patiently through the Thai Dancing show. Nursery were really getting into some of the music and a couple of the class were even copying the actions of the dancers! So cute!
Kru Jib organised some traditional Thai games for the class and they really got into the spirit of things. I have so many pictures, here are just a few....

 Beautiful dancers!

Nursery were so proud of the wonderful Kratongs they made to float on the lake and had a great time showing them off. Thank you very much to everybody for dressing up so beautifully and those who brought in flowers for our Kratongs. It was a really special day.

I hope you all had as much fun celebrating Loy Kratong as we did!
