Home learning - 29.3.16

This week we are focusing on cars as part of our transport topic. Today, in class, we made up our own licence plates using numbers that are familiar to us.
For home learning, I would like children to write down all the numbers they see around them at home. You'll be surprised how many numbers you have close by. Children can also make up their own licence plates; house numbers, and telephone numbers.

Home Learning - 22.3.16

    

Recently we have been reading/recognising signs and text in our environment. The children are already reading/recognising many signs that are familiar to them, such as 7-Eleven.
For home-learning, I would like children to take photos of the signs and text that they can read from their environment. You could make the pictures into a book that can then be shared at school.
So, if you go walking, or to the mall, don't forget to take your camera!

Learning Journey Conference No:1

Today saw our first LJC! We welcomed Neasha's mum and dad, Summer's mum and dad, and Grandae's mum into our room.
The mums and dads helped us with our writing class - Thanks! And then they sat with their kids and discussed the learning journeys together.
The mums and dads all agreed that it was a great opportunity to see what their kids had been doing in school and what they were interested in.
I am looking forward to seeing the rest of you as the week goes on.

Welcome to NuNu!

On Monday we welcome a new student. NuNu will be joining RJ and hopefully she will have much fun with us!

Whatever Next!

The children are so engaged with the space topic that we have decided to continue with it for another 2 weeks.
This time around our focus book is Whatever Next by Jill Murphy. This is a lovely story about a Bear that goes to the moon in his cardboard box.

Here is another story that the children may also like: Meg and Mog go to the Moon. This is a story that I watched when I was a child (it's very old!).

Here are some class activities from last week and this week. Please ask your child to explain each picture to you as this will help with recall and language development.

Home learning - 15.3.16

For home learning this week I would like children to focus on practising key skills in reading. 

Reading is a difficult set of skills to learn as children need knowledge of letter sounds, visual clues, rhyme, and patterns in text.
To help the children with their development, please help your child to read different words and sentences that you find around you. I good place to start is reading logos.

Alongside this, please continue to use the flash cards that we sent home earlier in the year. Daily practice of these will help children build up their visual bank of words.

And don't forget we have our Reading Magic club in the EY library on Mon, Wed and Thurs at 2.45 - 3/15 for KG and Reception children.
