This shoe is toooooooo BIG!

It is very important to get the right fitting on your children's shoes so that they can move freely and comfortably. Poorly fitted shoes can result in physical problems, such as poor muscle development. Please take a moment to watch the following video to see how to get the correct shoe size for your kids.

Are you sitting comfortably?

Sitting correctly is very important for correct physical development. Please take a moment to watch this video which explains the effects of incorrect siting and posture.

Just in - Summer's home learning task!

Here's Summer playing X and O; writing numbers, and chalking in the garden. I love the way that Summer's parents let him write freely in different places!

Home learning - 26.1.16

For home learning this week I would like children to practice reading and writing numbers from 1-20. The children are very good at recognising numbers, but need a little help to write them.

Go on a number walk around your house and garden and get your child to read out and write down all the number they find. Encourage them to pay attention to correct formation (start at the top!).

Children could write numbers on the floor, on the window, and on paper. You could use chalk, pens, lipstick!

Perhaps you could make a zig-zag book of numbers 1-20. Here are some examples of zig-zag books:

This week we have learnt to play a new game called X and O. The children enjoyed the game, but need to practice some more. Please practice at home with chalk on the floor in the garden, on paper, or on a white board.

Class activities this week.

For phonics today we learnt the letter sound for 'x'. To reinforce the sounds we learnt how to play X AND O. You may of played this as a child as this game has been popular for years!
You could try playing this for home learning. The children almost understand the rules, so they made need some practice before really mastering it.

The weather has been so nice this week that we have extended our outdoor playtimes. Today we went on a safari and saw dinosaurs! Please ask your child to tell you all about it.

We also practiced slicing using the playdough and plastic knives. This is a great skill which helps develop small muscle strength and hand-eye coordination.

For Guided Reading this week, we went outside. Books and fresh air are a great combination!

As it has been cold, the children have been practicing putting their jackets on and fastening zips. This is a very tricky skill and children should always be encouraged to do this by themselves.

And finally, Meleah models for our new EY tabard.

RJ Bakery!

Today the children role-played a Bakery shop. They made some wonderful goodies which they baked in the oven. Hmmmm hmmm!

The Little Red Hen

Our next mini topic will be The Little Red Hen. This is a story of a hen that wants to make bread, but none of the other animals want to help her. We plan to make some bread and other delicious goodies as part of our topic.

Here is the story:

Our latest topic is The Little Red Hen, which is an old fable from years gone by! In fact, it was one of my favourite stories as a child!
For home learning this week I would like children to practice building cvc words. These are words like cat, hen, dog, pig, hat. Please go to the following website where you can play cvc building games.

cvc blast!

You can also try this game:

How many more people liked mango than watermelon?

Home learning - 12/1/16

For home learning this week, I would like children to find out family members favourite fruit. Please work with your child to present the data that you collect in a simple chart or table.

Here are some ideas about how to present the information you collect:

Please send the results of the data into school for our child to share in our Maths lessons.
